The aerodrome was built as RAF Kenley and operated between 1917 and 1959. Although a fire destroyed many of the buildings in 1978, the site is thought to be the best preserved of all WWII RAF fighter stations.

Overground: Whyteleafe - Exit the station and walk up the hill to Kenley Common, the aerodrome runs alongside the common.
